Marhaf and Nawal ran a small bakery for over 20 years on a hilly street in Hama, Syria. They arrived to Brooklyn in 2016, on a mission to share the Syrian tradition of fresh, crispy, lightly sweet Baklava as well as lesser-known sweets with their new country.
Leaving our city and the house of our grandparents and great-grandparents and great-great grandparents has not been easy and we did not want to go. Baking keeps us going. Also, our new city needs good baklava.
